A blend of 95%+ Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc from the Spottswoode Estate Vineyard.

Marques De Murrieta \"Castillo Ygay\" 1978 Rioja Gran Reserva Especial 3x 75cl

Tempranillo dominant blend from the iconic Marques De Murrieta in the Rioja region of northern Spain. Castillo Ygay is the estate's flagship wine; Matured in American Oak barriques for a period in excess of the minimum 24 months required to classify as Gran Reserva.

Marqués de Murrieta is the oldest family winery based in Rioja, concentrating exclusively on the production of premium Reserva and Gran Reserva wines since 1852.

This 1978 vintage of their famous Gran Reserva Especial is a blend of 75% Tempranillo, 12% Mazuelo (aka Carignan), 10 Garnacha Tinta and 3% Graciano: matured for an impressive 18 years (216 months) in American oak barrels.

San Felice 'Il Grigio' 2011 Chianti Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 5x75cl

Sangiovese dominant blend from the famed Chianti Classico in the heartland of Tuscany, renowned as the original area of Chianti - and, since 1924, identified as such by the stamp of a black rooster on gold.

Chianti Classico wines must contain a minimum of 80% of Sangiovese. The remainder can be made from native grapes such as Canaiolo or Colorino, as well as international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Wines made only from Sangiovese have been permitted since 1996.

Gran Selezione classed wines (only found in Chianti Classico) must be made from 100% estate grown grapes, with at least 30 months of ageing in oak barrels.

St Hallett Old Block Shiraz 2000s Barossa Valley 2x75cl

Old-vine Shiraz from the renowned Barossa Valley in South Australia.

Old Block was first made in 1980 from the St Hallett Old Block vineyard. To qualify for the Old Block Shiraz, the vineyards must be planted on their own rootstock and be more than 50 years of age. The oldest vineyard used to create this wine was planted in 1856 whilst the youngest 1963.

Marchesi Di Barolo 1970s Barolo 2x75cl

Barolo, often referred to as the “king of wines”,  must always be made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes-, and matured for a minimum period of 38 months, 18 of which must be in oak barrels - (traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks).

Barolo wine comes from a traditional village of the same name located in the northern region of Piemonte. It is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status on the same day that the classification was introduced in July 1980. The region encompasses 11 villages in the heart of Piemonte, Most of the estates are small and family-owned, therefore production of wines from the Barolo DOCG is low.

This lot contains one each of the 1976 and 1978 vintage.

Schramsberg Blanc-De-Noirs Brut 1990 Napa Valley

1990 vintage sparkling made from a blend of Pinot Noir with a small amount of Chardonnay from California's renowned Napa Valley and Schramsberg Vineyards estate. Made in the style - and same, traditional process (Méthode Traditionelle)- of Champagne, from France.

Blanc-De-Noirs wines are typically produced exclusively from red grapes- nearly always Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier.

Cabernet Sauvignon from the McLaren Vale wine-region to the south of Adelaide; Matured in new French Oak barrels for 9 months.

Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon 1995 Margaret River

Cabernet Sauvignon from the renowned Margaret River wine-region of Western Australia.

Smith Woodhouse & Co. 1983 Vintage Port

The small Port house of Smith Woodhouse & Co. was founded in 1784 by Christopher Smith M.P. and Lord Mayor of London. Their small 5-hectare vineyard is located in the heart of the sheltered Rio Torto Valley. Today the company is part of the Symington family of ports who also own iconic port houses such as; Graham's, Cockburn's, Dow's and Warre's & co.

Vintage Port is a specific style of Ruby Port which is made only in exceptional years and from the ripest grapes. The fermented wine is fortified before being aged for 2 years in massive oak vats which preserve the ripe fruit character. Upon bottling, the wines continue to age and can reward patient maturation for many decades.

Château Gruaud-Larose 'Sarget De Gruaud-Larose'' 1992 St-Julien 3x75cl / Cordier

Named after one of the families who previously owned the estate, Sarget De Gruaud-Larose is the second wine from the 2nd-Growth (2eme-Cru) Saint-Julien estate, Château Gruaud-Larose.

Sarget is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and smaller volumes of Petit Verdot; matured in French Oak barrels for 12-24 months in approximately a combination of new and used French oak. 

This is a bottling by the historic French négociants, Cordier.

Masseria Altemura 'Sasseo' Primitivo 2013 Salento 150cl

Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) from the region of Salento, Puglia in southern Italy: typically matred for 12 months in French oak. 

This is a 1.5 litre magnum bottle. Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation.
