Marchesi Di Barolo 1970s Barolo 2x75cl

Barolo, often referred to as the “king of wines”,  must always be made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes-, and matured for a minimum period of 38 months, 18 of which must be in oak barrels - (traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks).

Barolo wine comes from a traditional village of the same name located in the northern region of Piemonte. It is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status on the same day that the classification was introduced in July 1980. The region encompasses 11 villages in the heart of Piemonte, Most of the estates are small and family-owned, therefore production of wines from the Barolo DOCG is low.

This lot contains one each of the 1976 and 1978 vintage.

Tempranillo dominant blend from the iconic Marques De Murrieta in the Rioja region of northern Spain.Castillo Ygay is the estate's flagship wine; Matured in oak barriques for a period in excess of the minimum 12 months required to classify as Reserva.

Marqués de Murrieta is the oldest family winery based in Rioja, concentrating exclusively on the production of premium Reserva and Gran Reserva wines since 1852.

Masseria Altemura 'Sasseo' Primitivo 2013 Salento 150cl

Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) from the region of Salento, Puglia in southern Italy: typically matred for 12 months in French oak. 

This is a 1.5 litre magnum bottle. Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation.

Pieroth 'Wormser Liebfrauenmorgen' Beerenauslese 1976 Rheinhessen 3x70cl

Sweet white wine from the single vineyard, Liebfrauenmorgen, by the village of Worms in the Rheinhessen wine-region just south-west of Frankfurt.

Beerenauslese is a German classification for a late harvest, very sweet wine. Beerenauslese, often called \"BA\" for short, wines are a category and level of sweetness above Auslese and are made from grapes affected by noble rot, i.e.\"botrytised \" grapes.

M.Chapoutier 'Monier De La Sizeranne' 2000 Hermitage 

Syrah from the iconic northern Rhône Valley appellation of Hermitage: matured for around 18 months in French oak with newer vintages seeing a portion matured in concrete tanks. 

Monier de la Sizeranne comes from a blending of different vineyards including; Les Bessards, Le Méal and les Greffieux.

Maison Chapoutier is without doubt one of the oldest and most renowned names in the Rhône producing some of the finest Hermitage. Today Chapoutier is both a negociant and wine maker and are active all over the Rhone valley in every major appellation owning close to 25% of the entire appellation.

Muga Prado Enea 2011 Rioja Gran Reserva

Tempranillo dominant blend from the northern Spanish DOC of Rioja; Classified as a Gran Reserva, this wine was matured for a minimum period of 24 months in oak barrels.

This wine is a blend of; 80% Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano.

Muga Prado Enea 2011 Rioja Gran Reserva

Tempranillo dominant blend from the Rioja region in northern Spain. Classified as a Gran Reserva, this wine was matured for a minimum period of 24 months in oak barrels.

Rioja is arguably Spain's top wine region and is one of only two regions classified under the Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) system. Other than Tempranillo and Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo (Carignan) are also used in the red wines of Rioja.
