Marques De Murrieta \"Castillo Ygay\" 1978 Rioja Gran Reserva Especial 3x 75cl

Tempranillo dominant blend from the iconic Marques De Murrieta in the Rioja region of northern Spain. Castillo Ygay is the estate's flagship wine; Matured in American Oak barriques for a period in excess of the minimum 24 months required to classify as Gran Reserva.

Marqués de Murrieta is the oldest family winery based in Rioja, concentrating exclusively on the production of premium Reserva and Gran Reserva wines since 1852.

This 1978 vintage of their famous Gran Reserva Especial is a blend of 75% Tempranillo, 12% Mazuelo (aka Carignan), 10 Garnacha Tinta and 3% Graciano: matured for an impressive 18 years (216 months) in American oak barrels.

Ruinart Blanc-de-Blancs Brut 1988 Vintage Champagne 150cl

1988 vintage Champagne from the renowned House of Ruinart.

Blanc-De-Blancs Champagne are made exclusively from the white grape variety, Chardonnay.

This is a 1.5 litre magnum bottle. Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation.

Ridge Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 California 2x75cl

An iconic name in Californian wine making, Ridge vineyards only began in the 1960's, however, wine has been produced at the site underthe name 'Monte Bello Winery' since 1885. Marchesi Di Barolo 1970s Barolo 2x75cl

Barolo, often referred to as the “king of wines”,  must always be made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes-, and matured for a minimum period of 38 months, 18 of which must be in oak barrels - (traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks).

Barolo wine comes from a traditional village of the same name located in the northern region of Piemonte. It is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status on the same day that the classification was introduced in July 1980. The region encompasses 11 villages in the heart of Piemonte, Most of the estates are small and family-owned, therefore production of wines from the Barolo DOCG is low.

This lot contains one each of the 1976 and 1978 vintage.

R. Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia 2008 Rioja Reserva

A Tempranillo dominant blend from the northern Spanish DOC of Rioja; Matured in oak barrels for approximately 6 years.

Established by Don Rafael López de Heredia in 1877, R. López de Heredia is one of the most well known and respected wineries in Rioja today. An interesting note- when the term \"Reserva\" was defined in the 1970s, the owner of Viña Tondonia, objected on the grounds that the new terms were too lenient - even his most basic wine far exceeding the \"Gran Reserva\" requirements - and so refused to use the new classifications on his labels.

Rioja is arguably Spain's top wine region and is one of only two regions classified under the Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) system. Other than Tempranillo and Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo (Carignan) are also used in the red wines of Rioja.

Rosemount 'Old Benson' Fine Old Tawny Port NV Australia 3x50cl

A non-vintage sweet, fortified wine from South Eastern Australia. Made in the same style as that of the famous Portuguese fortified wine, Port, produced in the Douro Valley.

Made from a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tokay grapes aged for an average of 10 years. 

Tawny Port is a particular style of Port in which the fortified wines are aged for a number of years in small oak casks.  This process of deliberate and careful oxidative maturation imparts typical characteristics of stewed fruits, nuts and leather. The wines do not age or improve further upon bottling.
