La Rioja Alta 'Viña Ardanza' 2009 Rioja Reserva 150cl

Tempranillo dominant blend from the Rioja region in northern Spain; Classified as a Reserva, this wine must be matured for a minimum period of 12 months in oak barrels.

As is common for La Rioja Alta, this wine was matured for a period of 30-36 months- far exceeding the minimum requirements for classification as a Reserva.

Rioja is arguably Spain's top wine region and is one of only two regions classified under the Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) system. Other than Tempranillo and Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo (Carignan) are also used in the red wines of Rioja.

This is a 1.5 litre magnum bottle. Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation.

Please note that due to the additional weight, there shall be a shipping charge for 2 bottles applied to this lot.

An interesting note- when the term \"Reserva\" was defined in the 1970s, the owner of Viña Tondonia, objected on the grounds that the new terms were too lenient - even his most basic wine far exceeding the \"Gran Reserva\" requirements - and so refused to use the new classifications on his labels.
