History

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, situated in Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy, was established in 1815 by General Louis Liger-Belair, a distinguished officer under Napoleon. He acquired the Château de Vosne and assembled a significant estate, including renowned vineyards such as La Romanée, La Tâche, and La Grande Rue. Over time, the domaine expanded to encompass over 60 hectares, featuring some of the most esteemed climats in the Côte de Nuits.

In 1933, due to inheritance laws and economic challenges, much of the estate was sold at auction. However, key parcels like La Romanée, Aux Reignots, and Les Chaumes remained within the family, managed by tenants and the wines sold through négociants.

In 2000, Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, a trained agricultural engineer and oenologist revitalized the domaine by reclaiming family vineyards and producing wines under the estate's label. He implemented biodynamic farming practices and traditional winemaking techniques, emphasising the expression of terroir. Today, the domaine oversees approximately 10.5 hectares, including the esteemed monopole La Romanée and continues to uphold its legacy in Burgundy's viticultural landscape.
