Sassicaia is one of Italy's greatest and most iconic wines. A "Super-Tuscan" by nature of being made from grape varieties not native to Tuscany, and which pays significant homage - and competition - to Bordeaux.
The 1985 vintage caused a sensation for the wine when Robert M. Parker scored it an impressive 100 points and compared it to a Mouton-Rothschild wine. 1985 was renowned as a magnificent vintage for wine in Tuscany due to the even-temperatures in all months of the year.
This wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. The 1985 vintage was matured for 22 months in approx. 40% Slovanian new oak barrels and 60% French Tronçais barrels, with a small portion of Allier. 65% of this was new wood.
