Created in 1937, the Pommard wine appellation, known for it's powerful and full- bodied wine, is located in the Côte de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy, immediately next to neighbouring Volnay. The region is home to over 25 Premier Cru vineyards and produces red wine only made from Pinot Noir grapes. Regulations allow for up to 15% of Chardonnay, Pinot blanc and Pinot gris as accessory grapes- although this is rarely utilised.
Pinot Noir is a red wine grape variety that is grown in many wine regions around the world, including Burgundy, France and the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
France is widely recognized as one of the world's premier wine-producing countries, renowned for its diverse range of wine styles and regions, including Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.
Premier Cru is a vineyard classification used in Burgundy and Champagne, denoting sites recognized for producing high-quality wines, ranked just below Grand Cru. It reflects superior terroir and adherence to strict production standards within designated appellations.
