In 2012, Chateau Le Thil was sold to the Cathiard family, owners of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte with Chateau Les Carmes Haut Brion also acquiring some of their vines. Today, the team that produces Smith Haut Lafitte is also responsible for Chateau Le Thil.
Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a wine estate located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Bordeaux, France. Deeds for a few vine rows on the property date back to the 14th century. George Smith, a Scottish wine merchant, acquired the property in the mid-18th century and named it after himself.
France is widely recognized as one of the world's premier wine-producing countries, renowned for its diverse range of wine styles and regions, including Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.
AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) is France’s official wine classification system, regulating geographic origin, grape varieties, viticulture, and winemaking practices to ensure quality and authenticity. It protects traditional regional wine styles and names.
