Amarone della Valpolicella is one of Italy's most iconic wines. As with all Valpolicellas, the wine is a blend of the Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella grape varieties.
This wine is from the Classico sub-region which is deemed to produce wines of particularly esteemed quality.
Italy is a wine-making powerhouse, renowned for its diverse range of wines and regions including Tuscany, Piedmont, and Veneto.
Classico DOCG refers to wines produced in the historic, original heartland of certain Italian wine regions that have been awarded Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) status—the highest classification in Italy's wine quality system. The term "Classico" distinguishes wines from the oldest, most traditional vineyard areas, often located on higher elevations or superior terroirs, within a broader DOCG appellation. For example, Chianti Classico DOCG comes from the central zone of the Chianti region, known for producing more structured and refined wines than those from surrounding areas. DOCG regulations ensure strict controls over grape varieties, yields, aging requirements, and winemaking practices, with Classico wines often subject to even more rigorous standards. These wines are typically known for their authenticity, balance, and strong sense of place, making Classico DOCG labels a trusted mark of both tradition and quality in Italian wine.
