Corvina is a red wine grape variety that is widely grown in the Veneto region of north-eastern Italy and is an important component of several well-known Italian red wines, including Valpolicella and Bardolino. It is used to produce medium-bodied red wines that are known for their bright acidity, moderate tannins, and a range of fruit flavours.
Almost exclusively cultivated in Italy, Corvina is primarily grown in the Veneto region of the north-east where it is best-known for producing the red wine Valpolicella, which is made in the province of Verona.
Corvina is also grown in other regions in Italy, such as Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Tuscany, as well as very small cultivation in countries like Argentina, Australia, and California in the US.
The Corvina grape is high in tannins which gives it a firm structure, and has a deep, dark colour.
Although mostly blended, on its own the Corvina grape produces a lighter-bodied wine with floral red fruits on the nose and savoury currant, red cherry and plum fruits on the palate.
