Maison Joseph Drouhin is a wine producer located in Burgundy, France. Founded in 1880, it is a family-owned winery with a rich history of producing premium wines. With vineyards spanning across Burgundy, Maison Joseph Drouhin is known for its traditional winemaking techniques, organic and biodynamic practices, and commitment to expressing the terroir of each vineyard in its elegant and age-worthy wines.
Maison Joseph Drouhin, established in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin in Beaune, Burgundy, began as a négociant business, focusing on sourcing and aging wines from local growers. Joseph's commitment to quality laid the foundation for the family's enduring presence in the region's wine industry.
In the early 20th century, Joseph's son, Maurice Drouhin, expanded the family's holdings by acquiring vineyards, including the notable Clos des Mouches. Maurice played a significant role during World War II, using the estate's cellars to aid the Resistance. Post-war, under the leadership of Robert Drouhin, the estate further expanded into prestigious vineyards across the Côte d'Or and Chablis, and in 1987, established Domaine Drouhin Oregon in the United States.
Today, the fourth generation of the Drouhin family manages the estate, overseeing over 90 hectares of vineyards in Burgundy and Oregon. The family has embraced organic and biodynamic viticulture practices, reflecting their commitment to sustainable winemaking and the expression of terroir.
