The René Engel winery, which was located in the Burgundy region of France, no longer exists. After the death of its proprietor, Philippe Engel, in 2005, the estate was sold to Francois Pinault, the owner of Château Latour in Bordeaux. The vineyards were incorporated into Domaine Eugénie, which is also owned by Pinault. However, the wines produced under the René Engel label remain highly sought-after by collectors, and older vintages are considered to be among the best expressions of Burgundy's terroir.
