Pineau des Charentes is a sweet, fortified wine or vin de liqueur from the Charentais (Cognac) region of western France. It is made by adding Cognac from the previous year's distillation (or older) to fresh grape must of the current vintage.
This wine comes from the heart of Grand Champagne and was produced some time in the early 20th century. Before World War II began in 1939, this oak cask was hidden behind a rubble wall at what is now Sazerac's new Cognac Domaine and was not discovered again until late 2018.
France is widely recognized as one of the world's premier wine-producing countries, renowned for its diverse range of wine styles and regions, including Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.
AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) is France’s official wine classification system, regulating geographic origin, grape varieties, viticulture, and winemaking practices to ensure quality and authenticity. It protects traditional regional wine styles and names.
