Gaja acquired the Pieve Santa Restituta estate in 1994 and was the family's first expansion outside Barbaresco and Barolo.
Gaja is an Italian wine producer from the Piemonte region in the district of Langhe. The Gaja winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, whose family arrived from Spain during the 17th century. It is famous for producing premium Barbaresco and Barolo wines.
Sangiovese is a red grape variety native to Italy and is the most widely-planted in the country. The grape is key to a number of blends but is particularly known for those made in Tuscany.
