Pinot Noir is a red wine grape variety that is grown in many wine regions around the world, including Burgundy, France and the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
France is widely recognized as one of the world's premier wine-producing countries, renowned for its diverse range of wine styles and regions, including Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.
Premier Cru, meaning "First Growth" in French, is a classification used primarily in Burgundy and Champagne to denote vineyards or wines of high quality, though not the very highest tier. In Burgundy, Premier Cru vineyards are recognized for their superior terroir and consistently excellent production, ranking just below the prestigious Grand Cru sites. Wines from these vineyards are typically labeled with the name of the village followed by the specific vineyard name, such as "Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Chenevottes." Premier Cru wines often show greater complexity, structure, and aging potential compared to village-level wines, making them highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. While they may not command the same prices as Grand Cru wines, many offer outstanding quality and a strong expression of place.
