The little-known region of Madiran is located around the village of Madiran in Gascony, rural south-west France. Only red wines are permitted in the appellation with Tannat making up a minimum of 60% of the wine blended with any of the following; Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Fer Servadou.
Tannat is a red wine grape variety that is indigenous to the South West France region. It is now widely grown in South America, particularly in Uruguay, where it is known for producing full-bodied and tannic red wines with high alcohol content.
