Sauvignon Blanc from the iconic Loire Valley appellation of Blanc-Fumé-De-Pouilly (aka Pouilly-Fumé), located directly across the river from the equally famous appellation of Sancerre.
The Pouilly-Fumé appellation was created in 1937 and was originally named Blanc Fumé de Pouilly. The appellation exclusively produces white wines from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, with a distinctive smoky ('fumé) character. Not to be confused with Burgundy's Pouilly-Fuisse which is Chardonnay based.
Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine grape variety that is grown in many wine regions around the world, from the Loire Valley in France to the Marlborough region in New Zealand.
France is widely recognized as one of the world's premier wine-producing countries, renowned for its diverse range of wine styles and regions, including Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.
AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) is France’s official wine classification system, regulating geographic origin, grape varieties, viticulture, and winemaking practices to ensure quality and authenticity. It protects traditional regional wine styles and names.
