History

Giuseppe Rinaldi’s roots in Barolo stretch back to at least 1870 when Giovanni Rinaldi founded a family winery that later produced wines under labels like Barale & Rinaldi. His son Battista, a trained enologist and mayor of Barolo, elevated the estate after 1947. He acquired renowned vineyard parcels Brunate, Le Coste, Cannubi San Lorenzo, and Ravera, and created both a blended Barolo and a single‑vineyard Brunate Riserva in exceptional years.

In 1992, Giuseppe “Beppe” Rinaldi, a former veterinarian, took over upon his father’s death, preserving traditional methods such as spontaneous fermentation in large oak vats, long maceration, and aging in neutral Slavonian casks. He introduced two blended Barolos: Brunate–Le Coste and Cannubi San Lorenzo–Ravera, resisting the trend toward modern, single‑cru bottlings and barriques.

Beppe, known as “Citrico” for his forthright personality, remained a committed traditionalist until his death in 2018 . He was joined by his daughters, oenologist Marta and agronomist Carlotta, who continue his legacy. Today, Cantina Giuseppe Rinaldi remains a benchmark for terroir‑driven, traditional Barolo, combining organic viticulture with disciplined, heritage‑based winemaking.
