History

Established on ancient viticultural land dating back to the Roman era, the Fontodi estate was acquired in 1968 by Dino Manetti. The property, long associated with the Manetti family's traditional terracotta tile business, was transformed into a quality-focused winery under organic cultivation and a gravity-driven cellaring approach.

Since the 1980s, Giovanni Manetti has led the estate, enhancing Fontodi’s reputation in Chianti Classico. He pioneered detailed subregional expressions such as Vigna del Sorbo Gran Selezione, and prioritised indigenous yeasts, gentle oak, and vineyard-focused winemaking to convey terroir and elegance.

Today, Fontodi spans over 130 ha (70 planted to vines), is fully certified organic, and is admired for wines like Flaccianello della Pieve, a 100 % Sangiovese that reflect its Conca d’Oro limestone-schist soils and strong hillside microclimate. The estate combines sustainable farming, minimal intervention, and traditional winemaking to express the character of Panzano in Chianti.
