Malvasia is a white wine grape variety that is widely grown in many countries, including Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. It is used to produce a variety of white wine styles, ranging from light and crisp to sweet and rich, and is prized for its bright acidity, floral aromatics, and a range of fruit and honey flavours.
A grape of Greek origin, Malvasia is mostly cultivated in the Mediterranean region where it has been grown for centuries in countries such as Italy, Spain, and Portugal. In the latter it is a key component of Malmsey Madeira and sometimes white port, while in Italy the grape is synonymous with the Malvasia delle Lipari DOC.
Malvasia is also grown in other wine regions such as Slovenia, Croatia and California in the United States.
