Created 1992, Virginie de Valandraud is the second wine of Château Valandraud. Made from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc: matured for 20 months in new oak barrels.
Château Valandraud came into being in 1989, when Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife Murielle Andraud bought a 0.6-hectare (1.5-acre) vineyard plot in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, near Château Pavie-Macquin.
They used a former garage as a winery to produce their first vintage in 1991 of 1,500 bottles.
France is widely recognized as one of the world's premier wine-producing countries, renowned for its diverse range of wine styles and regions, including Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.
The Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) is a cornerstone of France’s wine regulation system, designed to protect the authenticity, quality, and geographical origin of its wines and other agricultural products. Introduced in the early 20th century, the AOC system ensures that each wine labeled under a specific appellation adheres to rigorous standards, including permitted grape varieties, vineyard location, production methods, and yields. This guarantees that wines not only come from a defined region but also reflect its unique terroir and traditional practices. For wine lovers, the AOC label is a mark of both provenance and quality, offering a deeper connection to France’s rich winemaking heritage.
