Château Mouton-Rothschild 2005 Pauillac 1er-Cru 600cl

Despite being initially classified as a Second Growth estate in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Baron Philippe de Rothschild successfully lobbied for its promotion to First Growth status in 1973, making it the only estate to have been elevated to this status.

The Château's labels are also known for featuring original artwork by famous artists, starting with the 1945 vintage. Artists like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Andy Warhol have contributed to the label art over the years, making each vintage of Mouton Rothschild not only a masterpiece of winemaking but also a collector's item. 1945 was the first of the artist's label series (except for the one-off in 1924).

The vineyards of Château Mouton-Rothschild are planted to 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot - a ratio to which their wine roughly follows with slight annual variation; Matured in 100% new French Oak barrels for 18-22 months.

This is a 6 litre bottle. Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation.

This bottle is presented in it's original wooden case.

This wine is sold in-bond. Please read our In-Bond Wine Buying Guide prior to bidding.

R. López de Heredia 'Viña Tondonia' 1996 Rioja Gran Reserva Blanco 6x75cl

A white wine blend of 90% Viura and 10% Malvasia from the northern Spanish DOC of Rioja.

Established by Don Rafael López de Heredia in 1877, R. López de Heredia is one of the most well known and respected wineries in Rioja today. An interesting note- when the term \"Reserva\" was defined in the 1970s, the owner of Viña Tondonia, Don Pedro López Heredia, objected on the grounds that the new terms were too lenient - even his most basic wine far exceeding the \"Gran Reserva\" requirements - and so refused to use the new classifications on his labels.

Rioja is arguably Spain's top wine region and is one of only two regions classified under the Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) system. The white wines of Rioja (Rioja Blanco) account for around 10% of production each year and must contain a minimum of 51% Viura, with the remainder being made up of other permitted varieties; Garnacha Blanca, Tempranillo Blanca, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdejo and Malvasia.
