Avignonesi & Capannelle 50&50 2017 Tuscany 12 Litre (Balthazar)

50&50 is a wine sprung from the friendship which binds the owners of Avignonesi in Montepulciano and Capannelle in Chianti Classico. The first vintage was 1988 and it was born as an experiment, almost by chance: during a dinner the former owners of the two wineries started to compare, mix and match their wines, and came up with the even blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot. This wine has been matured in French Oak barriques for 24 months.

This is a 12 litre bottle also know as a Balthazar bottle, the equivalent of 16 regular bottles of wine!

Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation.

Please note that due to the additional weight, there shall be a shipping charge equivalent to 16 bottles applied to this lot.

Classic Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, left-bank Bordeaux-blend from the 1983 vintage; From the Pauillac appellation; Matured in French Oak barrels for approximately 18 months.

Chateau Pichon-Baron (formerly, Chateau Pichon-Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville) is a 2nd Growth (2eme Cru) estate in the 1855 Classification of the Medoc, and is frequently referred to as one of the leading \"Super Seconds\" - 2nd Growth wines of quality comparable to the 1st Growths.

The estates vines were planted in the 17th century and the Chateau gained almost immediate notoriety. The vineyards were split in 1850 between the children of Baron Joseph Pichon de Longueville and so, Pichon-Baron (as it is now more commonly called to separate it from its rival estate) was created.

Bidding advice

You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.

Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot. Our system will then automatically raise your bid in set increments if you’re outbid, up to your maximum. If someone bids above your set limit, we’ll notify you by email so you can choose whether to increase your bid.

Placing a Single Bid
Alternatively, place a single bid by selecting the button on the right side of the bidding panel. The button displays the amount needed for the next increment. For example, if the current highest bid is £50.00, the button will show "+ £5.00" (reflecting a £5.00 increment).
