Tua Rita is a prestigious winery located in Tuscany, Italy. Established in 1984, the winery is known for producing high-quality Super Tuscan wines, particularly its flagship wine, Redigaffi, which is made from 100% Merlot grapes. The winery's vineyards are located in the hills of the Maremma region and are managed using sustainable farming practices.
History
Tua Rita, located in Suvereto in Tuscany's Alta Maremma region was founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti. Initially intended as a rural retreat, their passion for viticulture led them to plant vineyards on the property's two hectares. By 1992, they released their first wine, Giusto di Notri, a Bordeaux-style blend. The estate gained international recognition in 2000 when their 100% Merlot wine, Redigaffi, received a perfect 100-point score from critic Robert Parker, marking a significant milestone for Italian winemaking.
Over the years Tua Rita expanded its vineyard holdings to approximately 60 hectares, cultivating varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Sangiovese. The estate emphasises sustainable viticulture, employing organic farming practices to maintain soil health and vine resilience. In addition to Redigaffi and Giusto di Notri, Tua Rita produces wines like Perlato del Bosco and Rosso dei Notri, each reflecting the unique terroir of the Colline Metallifere.
Today, Tua Rita remains a family-run estate, managed by Rita and Virgilio's daughter Simena and her husband, Stefano Frascolla, with their son Giovanni also involved. The winery continues to innovate, introducing amphora-aged wines like Keir and Per Sempre, showcasing their commitment to both tradition and experimentation. Tua Rita's evolution from a modest vineyard to a renowned producer exemplifies the potential of dedication and respect for the land in winemaking.
