Ceretto is a family-owned winery in Piedmont’s Langhe region, known for single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco. Founded in the 1930s, it emphasises organic viticulture, terroir expression, and cultural initiatives, including art and gastronomy, alongside its winemaking.

History

Ceretto was founded in the 1930s by Riccardo Ceretto in Alba, Piedmont. Initially producing wine from purchased grapes, the estate entered a turning point in the 1960s when Riccardo’s sons Bruno and Marcello embraced vineyard ownership. Drawing inspiration from Burgundy’s concept of cru, they began acquiring parcels in top terroirs like Barolo and Barbaresco.

In the 1970s, Ceretto expanded its estate holdings, establishing wineries such as Bricco Asili (1973) and Bricco Rocche (1976) for Barbaresco and Barolo respectively. The family also pioneered Arneis with Blangé in 1985, helping revive this local white variety. Over time, they’ve grown to over 120 hectares with a focus on low‑yield, terroir‑driven wines.

Today, Ceretto is a third‑generation, certified organic producer (since 2015) known for its integration of art, architecture, gastronomy, and sustainability. The estate includes four specialized wineries and cultural landmarks like the Barolo Chapel and a vineyard‑suspended “Grape” tasting room, reflecting their commitment to both heritage and innovation.
