Vermentino is a white wine grape variety that is primarily grown in Italy, particularly in the island regions of Sardinia and Corsica, and in the coastal regions of Liguria and Tuscany. It is known for producing light-bodied, crisp and fresh white wines with flavours of citrus and stone fruit, and is considered a signature grape of the region.
Vermentino is widely grown in several regions around the world, some of the most notable of which include Italy, particularly Sardinia and Liguria, and France, where it is known as Rolle. Vermentino is also grown in Corsica, where it is one of the most important grape varieties.
In the new world, the grape is also under vine in Australia, the United States and South Africa.
Vermentino wines are known for their bright acidity and crisp, refreshing character. The wines have a distinctive floral aroma, with notes of lemon and lime zest, green apples and white peaches.
On the palate, Vermentino wines are often described as having a medium body with flavours of citrus, stone fruits, and herbs, as well as a slightly salty, minerally character. The wine has a clean, crisp finish, with a good balance between acidity and fruitiness.
