The Priorat DOQ region in Catalonia is the most prominent area to use the designation, having been officially recognised as a DOQ in 2000. The only other Spanish wine region with an equivalent classification is Rioja DOCa, which uses the Spanish terminology rather than the Catalan DOQ.
