Château Mouton Rothschild was initially classified as a Second Growth estate in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Baron Philippe de Rothschild successfully lobbied for its promotion to First Growth (Premier Cru Classé) status in 1973, making it the only estate to have been elevated to this elite status.
This 1995 vintage is made from a blend of: 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc.
Château Mouton-Rothschild is a wine estate located in the Pauillac appellation of the Médoc region in Bordeaux, France. Château Mouton-Rothschild is one of the most famous wine estates in France, and indeed the world. It has been at the hub of the global wine business since the early 20th century.
France is widely recognized as one of the world's premier wine-producing countries, renowned for its diverse range of wine styles and regions, including Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.
Premier Grand Cru Classé is a prestigious designation awarded to a select group of Bordeaux wine estates that consistently produce wines of exceptional quality and distinction. In the 1855 Classification, created for the Exposition Universelle de Paris, only five estates from the Médoc and one from Graves (now part of Pessac-Léognan) were ranked as Premier Cru Classé, including iconic names like Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Château Haut-Brion, and Château Mouton Rothschild (which was elevated to this status in 1973). In Saint-Émilion, a separate and regularly updated classification system recognizes a few top estates as Premier Grand Cru Classé A and B, with only a handful achieving the highest tier. This title reflects not only a wine's historical significance but also its ongoing excellence in vineyard management, terroir expression, and winemaking. Wines from Premier Grand Cru Classé estates are highly sought after for their complexity, longevity, and prestige.
