Japan is a wine-producing country located in East Asia that despite being better-known for rice wine, does have a grape winemaking tradition that dates back over 400 years. The country's wine industry has experienced significant growth since the 1970s, with winemakers focusing on producing high-quality wines using imported grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and traditional Japanese grapes such as Koshu.
