Vidal is a hybrid wine grape variety that was developed in France and is now widely grown in the United States, particularly in the colder wine regions of the East Coast and the Great Lakes region. It is known for producing crisp, medium-bodied white wines with high acidity and flavours of stone fruit, and is often used in the production of sweet and fortified wines.
Vidal is widely grown in Canada where it is used to produce a variety of wines, including ice wines. It was introduced there in the 1940s and is cultivated in great numbers on Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Nova Scotia.
Vidal is also grown in the United States, particularly in the states of New York and Virginia, where it is used to produce still and sparkling wines.
Vidal is a versatile grape variety that is known for producing wines with bright acidity and a crisp, refreshing character. The wine has a delicate bouquet of citrus, tropical fruits and honey, with hints of floral and herbal notes.
On the palate, Vidal wines are medium-bodied with flavours of green apples, pear, honeydew melon, and lemon zest. The wine has a good balance between sweetness and acidity, with a clean, crisp finish.
