Grüner Veltliner is a white wine grape variety that is primarily grown in Austria and is one of the country's most widely planted grape varieties. It is used to produce a variety of white wine styles, ranging from light and crisp to full-bodied and complex, and is known for its bright acidity and a range of fruit, floral, and spicy flavours.
Grüner Veltliner grapes are primarily grown in Austria and although it is planted across the country, some of the most notable regions include Wachau, Kremstal, and Kamptal.
The grape is also widely cultivated in Slovenia and the Czech Republic, with small amounts also grown in northern Italy, New Zealand, Australia and the United States.
The grape tends to produce highly aromatic, dry white wines with a sweetness that is often masked by its high acidity.
Grüner Veltliner is known for its spicy, zesty and peppery flavours with a unique green apple and citrus character. The wine can range from light and minerally to rich and full-bodied, depending on the winemaking style.
