Notable regions

Hugely important in the Italian region of Siciliy, Grillo is considered to be the base grape for the famous Marsala wines, as well as being used in other regional styles such as Sicilia DOC wines.

Grillo is also becoming increasingly popular in other countries, such as Australia and the United States where it is being used to produce fresh and fruity wines.

Characteristics

Grillo grapes tend to produce bone-dry wines with medium to light body and and medium to high acidity.

Grillo wines are often characterised by their bright citrus and green apple flavours, often exhibiting certain mineral and saline qualities as well.
