Vin de France (formerly Vin de Table prior to 2009) is the national French appellation in which the producer is not required to comply with appellation laws and traditional regional constraints. The winemaker has the freedom to create their wines from anywhere in France from different regions, vintages and from unsanctioned grape varieties or blends. The quality of these wines can vary drastically from uncomplicated basic wines to high-quality diverse wines that command a high price.
Aligoté is a white grape that produces dry white wines and is the third-most popular variety grown in the Burgundy region of France, after Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Along with blackcurrant liqueur, Aligoté wine is the traditionally the key ingredient of the Kir cocktail.
