Enrico Serafino 1952 Barbaresco

DOC Barbaresco is one of the great - yet largely unsung - wines of Italy.  Similar to it's more famous neighbour, Barolo; Barbaresco is made from Nebbiolo grapes and must be aged for a minimum of 26 months (at least 9 months in wooden barrels) prior to release.

The Enrico Serafino winery was founded as a wine business in 1878 in the small town of Canale in Piedmont, right in the town centre. The winery has now been in operation continuously in its original location for more than 140 years. 

Etienne Pochon 2016 Crozes-Hermitage 2x75cl

Syrah from the iconic northern Rhône Valley appellation of Crozes-Hermitage.

The red wines of Crozes-Hermitage are produced from Syrah, though small volumes of  the white grapes Marsanne and Roussanne are permitted to be blended in to soften tannins if the producer deems necessary.

Ruffino 1977 Chianti 3x75cl

Chianti is a classic red wine from the heartland of Tuscany - one of Italy's iconic wine regions.

Many Chianti wines are made from 100% Sangiovese, however the region rules stipulate that the wines can be made from a minimum of 80% Sangiovese, with up to 20% of the final blend permitted to be constituted from a handful of other approved grape varieties such as Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah.

Emilio Costanti 1970 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

100% Sangiovese from the Tuscan town of Montalcino; Classed as a riserva this wine must have been matured for a minimum of 6 years with at least 2 years in wood and 6 months in the bottle.

Brunello di Montalcino is one of the great under-appreciated wines of Italy.  100% Sangiovese which undergoes an extended period of pre-fermentation maceration to extract maximum colour, flavour and tannins which affords the wine its ability to mature for long periods.  Brunello di Montalcino must be aged in oak - commonly Slavonian oak - for a minimum of 2 years, though traditionally winemakers would age their Brunellos in oak for at least 3 years prior to release.

Ramos Pinto 'Duas Quintas' Reserva Especial 2000 Douro

A red wine blend of Touriga Nacional or Franca dominance from Portugal's mesmerising Douro region.

Rupert & Rothschild 'Baroness Nadine' Chardonnay 2019 Western Cape

Chardonnay from South Africa's renowned Western Cape wine-region: aged in French oak barrels.

From Quinta de Ervamoira, this is a red wine blend of Touriga Nacional dominance with Touriga Franca from Portugal's mesmerising Douro region: aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and vats.

Real Companhia Velha Royal Oporto 10 Year Old Tawny Port / Bottled 1998 37.5cl

A mature 10 year old Tawny port from the renowned Real Companhia Velha. Bottled in 1998

Tawny Port is a particular style of Port in which the fortified wines are aged for a number of years in small oak casks.  This process of deliberate and careful oxidative maturation imparts typical characteristics of stewed fruits, nuts and leather. Tawny port are non-vintage wines which come in various styles, primarily recognised by the length of time the wine has been aged. The wines do not age or improve further upon bottling.
