Stella di Campalto 'Bosco' 2018 Brunello di Montalcino 300cl

Single vineyard, 100% Sangiovese from the Tuscan town of Montalcino.

Brunello di Montalcino is one of the great under-appreciated wines of Italy.  100% Sangiovese which undergoes an extended period of pre-fermentation maceration to extract maximum colour, flavour and tannins which affords the wine its ability to mature for long periods.  Brunello di Montalcino must be aged in oak - commonly Slavonian oak - for a minimum of 2 years, though traditionally winemakers would age their Brunellos in oak for at least 3 years before release.

The San Giuseppe Winery takes its name from the sharecropping estate established by Giuseppe Martelli in 1910. Abandoned in 1940, the estate was acquired by the Stella Viola di Campalto in 1992.

This is a 3 litre double magnum bottle. Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation.

Salon Cuvée ‘S’ Le Mesnil Blanc-de-Blancs Brut 1983 Vintage Champagne

1983 vintage Champagne from the House of Salon's famed Le Mesnil vineyard.

Salon is a unique champagne. A single terroir, a single cru and a single grape variety. It is produced only in exceptional years (there were only 37 releases in the entirety of the 20th century).

Blanc-De-Blancs wines are made exclusively from white grapes- most commonly 100% Chardonnay.

Sergio Zenato 1990 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva 10x75cl

Amarone della Valpolicella is one of Italy's most iconic wines. As with all Valpolicellas, the wine is a blend of the Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella grape varieties.  

Amarone is produced through a process of partially rack-drying grapes - to increase concentration of both natural grape flavours and sugars - for approximately 4 months before winemaking begins.  The result is a wine of atypical power, concentration and alcohol content with an ability to benefit from long periods of maturation.

This wine is from the Classico sub-region which is deemed to produce wines of particularly esteemed quality.

Stonyridge 'Larose' 2008 Waiheke Island 12x75cl

Bordeaux-style blend from New Zealand's Waiheke Island, which is located near Auckland and is the third most populous island in New Zealand.

Stonyridge was founded in 1981 in the Onetangi Valley. Specializing in Bordeaux-style reds, the vineyard's most famous wine is its Stonyridge Larose.

Sandeman 1977 Vintage Port / Queen's Silver Jubilee 3x75cl

1977 Vintage Port from the renowned house of Sandeman. Bottled 1979. This is a special edition bottling to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II on 6th February 1977.

Vintage Port is produced only in the most exceptional deemed years from a single harvest. The fermented wine is fortified before being aged for 2-3 years in massive oak vats which preserve the ripe fruit character. Upon bottling, the wines continue to age and can reward patient maturation for many decades. The decision to declare a vintage is made by the individual Port house. 

The famous House of Sandeman was created in 1790 by Scotsman, George Sandeman and has continuously been making and shipping ports around the world for more than 200 years. Their famous logo featuring a caped man named \"The Don\" makes this the most well known brand of port in the world.

Sarget de Gruaud-Larose 1999 St-Julien 6x75cl

Named after one of the families who previously owned the estate, Sarget De Gruaud-Larose is the second wine from the 2nd-Growth (2eme-Cru) Saint-Julien estate, Château Gruaud-Larose.

Sarget is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and smaller volumes of Petit Verdot; matured in French Oak barrels for 12-24 months in approximately a combination of new and used French oak.

Stella Di Campalto 2012 Rosso di Montalcino

100% Sangiovese from the Tuscan town of Montalcino; aged for two years in cask and 6 months in bottle.

Established as a DOC in 1983, Rosso di Montalcino must be made from 100% Sangiovese (locally known as Sangioveto Grosso) and carries many similar characteristics of the great Brunello di Montalcino, except it is required to be matured for a lesser period of time in oak barrels- a minimum of 12 months. 

Quinta do Noval 'House Reserve' 1966 Fine Old Tawny Port

Mature 1966 vintage Tawny Port from the renowned house of Quinta Do Noval. Bottled in 1978.

Tawny Port is a particular style of Port in which the fortified wines are aged for a number of years in small oak casks.  This process of deliberate and careful oxidative maturation imparts typical characteristics of stewed fruits, nuts and leather. Tawny port are non-vintage wines which come in various styles, primarily recognised by the length of time the wine has been aged. The wines do not age or improve further upon bottling. 

Established in 1715, Quinta do Noval is one of the only historic Port houses that bears the name of its renowned single vineyard- Quinta do Noval.

Pinot Noir from the regional appellation of Bourgogne (Burgundy).

Sandeman Madeira circa 1940s

Madeira is a fortified wine produced from native grapes grown exclusively on the Portuguese island of Madeira. The four major white grape varieties used for Madeira production, (from sweetest to driest) are; Malvasia, Bual, Verdelho, and Sercial, this Madeira uses Verdelho.

We estimate this to be circa 1940s.

Schiavenza 1985 Barolo 2x75cl

Barolo, often referred to as the “king of wines”,  must always be made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes-, and matured for a minimum period of 38 months, 18 of which must be in oak barrels - (traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks).

Barolo wine comes from a traditional village of the same name located in the northern region of Piemonte. It is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status on the same day that the classification was introduced in July 1980. The region encompasses 11 villages in the heart of Piemonte, Most of the estates are small and family-owned, therefore production of wines from the Barolo DOCG is low.

Il Colle 2000s Brunello di Montalcino 2x75cl

Brunello di Montalcino is one of the great under-appreciated wines of Italy. This lot contains one each of the 2007 and 2008 vintage.

Schubert Maximin Grunhauser Herrenberg Riesling Eiswein 2002 Mosel 37.5cl

Very sweet Riesling Eiswein from the Herrenberg single vineyard of the centuries-old former Benedictine monastery of Maximin Grünhaus on the outskirts of Mertesdorf on the Ruwer tributary of the Mosel.

Eiswein (or ice-wine) is made from grapes which were picked in the middle of winter. The water content inside each grape being frozen, when gently cold-pressed, the sweet sugary pulp is drawn separately and vinified to a delightfully sweet wine.

Saint-Émilion 1947

From an unknown producer, this is likely a Merlot dominant, right-bank Bordeaux-blend from within the appellation of Saint-Émilion.

Saint-Émilion is located in the Libournais district of Bordeaux's Right Bank. Merlot is the primary grape variety used in the wines blended with Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon. Carmenere, Petit Verdot and Malbec are also permitted but rarely used.

Poggio di Sotto 2010 Rosso di Montalcino 3x75cl

100% Sangiovese from the Tuscan town of Montalcino; aged for two years in cask and 6 months in bottle.

Sérafin Père & Fils 'Les Millandes' 2009 Morey-St-Denis 1er-Cru

Pinot Noir from the Premier Cru vineyard of Les Millandes in the Burgundian appellation of Morey-Saint-Denis.

Les Millandes is one of the largest Premier Cru vineyards in central Morey-Saint-Denis and is planted entirley with Pinot Noir. 

Il Poggione 2001 Brunello di Montalcino

100% Sangiovese from the Tuscan town of Montalcino.

This wine is made from the estates oldest vineyards, planted between 490-475 feet above sea level.

San Felice \"Il Grigio\" 1969 Chianti Classico Riserva 6x75cl

Sangiovese dominant blend from the iconic wine-region of Chianti in the heart of Tuscany.

Chianti Classico wines must contain a minimum of 80% of Sangiovese. The remainder can be made from native grapes such as Canaiolo or Colorino, as well as international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Wines made only from Sangiovese have been permitted since 1996.

Classed as a Chianti Classico Riserva, this wine must have been aged for a minimum of 24 months including 3 months of bottle ageing.

Smith Woodhouse & Co. 1974 LBV Port

1974 Late Bottled Vintage from the renowned house of Taylor's. Bottled in 1978.

Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port is a specific style of Ruby Port in which the fortified wine - from a single, specified vintage - is aged for an extended period of time before bottling. Unlike Vintage Ports, LBV Ports do not continue to mature in the bottle.

Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser 'Abtsberg' Riesling Spatlese 1983 Mosel

Sweet Riesling from the single vineyard, Herrenberg, by the commune of Maximin Grunhaus in the outskirts of Mertesdorf on the southern bank of the famous Mosel river.

Spätlese is the the lightest of the German late harvest wines, produced from slightly-late-harvested grapes and may be either sweet or dry. If “Trocken” is noted on the label you can assume it's a dry style.

Signae 2008 Sagrantino di Montefalco 2x75cl

Red wine made from 100% Sagrantino grapes from the town of Montefalco, in the Umbria region of central Italy; matured for 24 months in French oak barriques followed by 8 months bottle ageing prior to release. 

The appellation of Sagrantino di Montefalco is know from 2009 as Montefalco Sagrantino.

I-Capitelli 1989 Recioto di Soave

A sweet white wine made from a Garganega dominant blend from the Recioto di Soave wine region of the larger Veneto region in Italy. 

Recioto is produced through a process of partially rack-drying grapes for several months to concentrate grape sugars resulting in a sweet wine of atypical power and concentration.
