Pio Cesare 1959 Barbaresco

DOC Barbaresco is one of the great - yet largely unsung - wines of Italy.  Similar to it's more famous neighbour, Barolo; Barbaresco is made from Nebbiolo grapes and must be aged for a minimum of 26 months (at least 9 months in wooden barrels) prior to release.

Pio Cesare were pioneers of Barolo and Barbaresco. Founded in 1881 by Cesare Pio, the family operation has been producing world renowned wines for 135 years.

Benjamin Leroux 2014 Volnay

The Volnay AOC was created in 1937 and is a located in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or.  The appellation applies to red wine made from Pinot Noir although up to 15% of the white wine grape Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris are permitted in the blends- although this is rarely utilised by producers. Almost 30 Premier Cru vineyards can be found within Volnay. 

Pete Lehmann 'Stonewell' Shiraz 1998 Barossa Valley

Old vine Shiraz from the renowned Barossa Valley in South Australia; Aged for approximately 18 months in mostly French oak.

First made in 1987, Stonewell by Peter Lehmann is the flagship Shiraz from this iconic Barossa Valley producer.

Barossa Valley is amongst Australia's oldest and most renowned wine regions. The internationally recognised region has a Mediterranean climate and is synonymous with Australia's signature grape, Shiraz. The area also boasts some of the world's oldest continually producing Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling vines. Other prominent grapes of the region include, Semillon, Viognier and Mouvedre.

Barolo, often referred to as \"The King Of Wines\" is always made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, as a Riserva classification, this wine was matured in oak for a minimum period of 36 months- traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks.

Barolo wine comes from a traditional village of the same name located in the northern region of Piemonte. It is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status on the same day that the classification was introduced in July 1980. The region encompasses 11 villages in the heart of Piedmont, most of the estates are small and family-owned and so production is low.

Plaisir de Merle Cabernet Sauvignon 2000 Paarl 150cl

Cabernet Sauvignon from the South African region of Paarl, just north-east of Cape Town.

This is a 1.5 litre magnum bottle. Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation.

Bodegas Domecq 'Marqués de Arienzo' 1982 Rioja Gran Reserva

Tempranillo dominant red wine from the famed Rioja region in northern Spain; Classified as a Gran Reserva, this wine was matured for a minimum period of 5 years including a minimum of 24 months in oak barrels.

Rioja is arguably Spain's top wine region and is one of only two regions classified under the Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) system. Other than Tempranillo and Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo (Carignan) are also used in the red wines of Rioja. 

Marques de Arienzo was founded in 1972 by The House of Domecq- one of the oldest winemakers in Spain which has been producing wine in Spain since 1730.

Pieroth Burg Layer 'Schlosskapelle' Kabinett 1973 Nahe 3x70cl

Semi-sweet white wine blend made from Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Kerner grapes from the single vineyard, Schlosskapelle, by the village of Burg Layen in the Nahe region in south-western Germany.

Kabinett is the lightest style of German wine. It is made from grapes which were picked at full ripeness (but not late-harvested) and the style typically ranges from dry to off-dry with well balanced residual sweetness and acidity.

Pieroth 'Birkweiler Konigsgarten' Kerner Spatlese 1975 Pfalz 3x70cl

Semi-sweet white wine made from Kerner grapes from the Pfalz wine-region of south-western Germany.

Spätlese is the the lightest of the German late harvest wines, produced from slightly-late-harvested grapes and may be either sweet or dry. If “Trocken” is noted on the label you can assume it's a dry style.

This wine celebrates Ferinand Pieroth 1906-1976.

Paul Goerg Brut 2005 Vintage Champagne

2005 vintage Champagne from the house of Paul Goerg.

The Premier Cru vineyard of Paul Goerg is located in Vertus, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Their vintage Champagne is made up of 85% Chardonnay with Pinot Noir and is aged for 9 years prior to release.

Chardonnay from the iconic Burgundian appellation of Puligny-Montrachet, within the subregion of Côte-de-Beaune.

Philizot & Fils 'Veuve Monsigny' Blanc-de-Blancs 2007 Vintage Champagne

The famed Champagne Wine Region located in the northeast of France is renowned for producing the world's most celebrated sparkling wine. Champagne is typically made from one or a combination of the three predominant grape varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, although there are four other lesser-known grape varieties that are permitted to be included: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Petit Meslier and Arbane.

Blanc-De-Blancs wines are made exclusively from white grapes- most commonly 100% Chardonnay.

Bollinger 'Special Cuvée' NV Champagne

Special Cuvée is a non-vintage Champagne made from 85% Grand and Premier Cru vineyards from the renowned House of Bollinger.

Founded in 1829 initially under the name Renaudin Bollinger & Cie, Bollinger is one of the last independent Champagne houses. The house continues to be run by members of the Bollinger family to this day. The House’s 178 hectares are planted with 85% of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vines, the majority of which are Pinot Noir which is dominant in their wines.

Paul Reitz 'Lavaux Saint-Jacques' 1981 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er-Cru

Pinot Noir from the Premier Cru vineyard of Lavaux Saint-Jaques within the Burgundian appellation of Gevrey-Chambertin.

Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest wine-producing village in Burgundy's Côte d'Or. The renowned region is home to 26 Premier Cru and 9 Grand-Cru climats which can produce some of the world's most sought-after wines. The appellation is permitted to produce only red wine from Pinot Noir grapes, although regulations allow up to 15% of the white wine grapes; Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc to be blended into the red wine, however this is rarley practised. 

Bersano 1980 Barolo

Barolo, often referred to as the “king of wines”,  must always be made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes-, and matured for a minimum period of 38 months, 18 of which must be in oak barrels - (traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks).

Barolo wine comes from a traditional village of the same name located in the northern region of Piemonte. It is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status on the same day that the classification was introduced in July 1980. The region encompasses 11 villages in the heart of Piedmont, most of the estates are small and family-owned and so production is low.

B. M. & J. Strauss 1960s Haut-Barsac 2x75cl

Sweet Barsac wines prodcued in the 1960s by Produced by B. M. & J. Strauss of London LTD.

The wines of Sauternes and Barsac are produced from a blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and occasionally a small amount of Muscadelle, left on the vines until affected by the noble fungus, Botrytis Cinerea, which dehydrates the grapes to raisins, leaving only the sweet sugary pulp with which to make the one of the worlds most sought after sweet wines.

A Gamany dominant blend with Chardonnay from the national French classification of Vin de France.

Vin de France (formerly Vin de Table prior to 2009) is the national French appellation in which the producer is not required to comply with appellation laws and traditional regional constraints. The winemaker has the freedom to create their wines from anywhere in France from different regions, vintages and from unsanctioned grape varieties or blends. The quality of these wines can vary drastically from uncomplicated basic wines to high-quality diverse wines that command a high price. 

Badia A Coltibuono 1969 Chianti Classico Riserva 3x72cl

Sangiovese dominant blend from the iconic wine-region of Chianti in the heart of Tuscany. Classed as a Chianti Classico Riserva, this wine must have been aged for a minimum of 24 months including 3 months of bottle ageing.

Chianti Classico wines must contain a minimum of 80% of Sangiovese. The remainder can be made from native grapes such as Canaiolo or Colorino, as well as international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Wines made only from Sangiovese have been permitted since 1996.

Pommery 'Brut Royal' NV Champagne

Non-vintage Champagne from the house of Pommery.

The famed Champagne Wine Region located in the northeast of France is renowned for producing the world's most celebrated sparkling wine. Champagne is typically made from one or a combination of the three predominant grape varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, although there are four other lesser-known grape varieties that are permitted to be included: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Petit Meslier and Arbane.

Champagne Pommery was founded in Reims in 1858 initially under the name Pommery & Greno. The house, under the ownership of the renowned Madame Louise Pommery, was the was the first to commercialise brut Champagne in 1874.

Prince Poniatowski 'Aigle Blanc' 1984 Vouvray 2x75cl

Semi-sweet Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley appellation of Vouvray.

The Vouvray wine region, located in the Loire Valley's Touraine district, is famed for its white wine made almost exclusively from the Chenin Blanc grape. Various styles: sweet, dry, still and sparkling are permitted in the region. Other than Chenin Blanc, the lesser-known and rarely seen Arbois grape is also permitted. Chenin Blanc is also known as Pineau de la Loire in Loire and Steen in South Africa.

Poggio Salvi 1983 Brunello di Montalcino

100% Sangiovese from the Tuscan town of Montalcino.

Brunello di Montalcino is one of the great under-appreciated wines of Italy.  100% Sangiovese which undergoes an extended period of pre-fermentation maceration to extract maximum colour, flavour and tannins which affords the wine its ability to mature for long periods.  Brunello di Montalcino must be aged in oak - commonly Slavonian oak - for a minimum of 2 years, though traditionally winemakers would age their Brunellos in oak for at least 3 years prior to release.

Brusina Brandler 1959 Graves

An incredibly old 1959 white wine from the appellation of Graves. 

We are unable to confirm the type of wine this is however we believe this is a sweet white wine likely made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion. 

Pieroth 'Steinweiler Kloster Liebfrauenberg' Kabinett 1976 Rheinpfalz 2x70cl

From the renowned Pieroth Estate, this is a semi-sweet white wine blend of Silvaner, Muller-Thurgau, Morio-Muscat and Scheurebe from the Rheinpfalz wine-region to the south of Frankfurt.

Kabinett is the lightest style of German wine. It is made from grapes which were picked at full ripeness (but not late-harvested) and the style typically ranges from dry to off-dry with well balanced residual sweetness and acidity.

Bersano 'Cremosina' 1959 Barolo Riserva Speciale

Barolo, often referred to as \"The King Of Wines\" is always made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, as a Riserva classification, this wine was matured in oak for a minimum period of 62 months, including 18 months in wood- traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks.

Barolo wine comes from a traditional village of the same name located in the northern region of Piemonte. It is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status on the same day that the classification was introduced in July 1980. The region encompasses 11 villages in the heart of Piedmont, most of the estates are small and family-owned and so production is low.

This wine comes from the Cremosina estate which is home to Bersano's oldest vines.

Braida Bricco Dell'Uccellone 1997 Barbera d'Asti

Barbera is one of the great native grape varieties of northern Italy.  Barbera d'Asti means literally, Barbera from (the town of) Asti, in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy.
