Torrontés is a white wine grape variety that is grown in Argentina, where it is the country's signature white wine grape. It is known for producing aromatic and crisp white wines with intense floral and fruity aromas, and is widely considered to be one of South America's most unique and distinctive grape varieties.
Torrontés is most commonly associated with Argentina where it is the country's most planted white grape variety and accounts for the majority of the grape under vine globally. It is grown primarily in the north-western regions of Salta and La Rioja, where the high altitude, sunny climate and poor soil conditions help to produce high-quality grapes with concentrated flavours.
While the grape is almost exclusively found in South America, with other small plantings in Chile, Uruguay and Brazil, it is also cultivated in Spain and the United States.
Torrontés produces wines with a distinctive aromatic profile, with notes of peaches, pears, jasmine, and sometimes a hint of citrus. The flavours of Torrontés wines are typically light and refreshing, with a balanced sweetness that ranges from off-dry to medium-sweet
The high levels of natural acidity in the grapes make for a crisp, bright and lively wine that is highly drinkable. Despite its lightness, Torrontés wines can have a rich, complex flavour profile, with layers of fruit and floral notes that can linger on the palate.
