Lagrein is a red wine grape variety that is primarily grown in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of north-east Italy. It is used to produce a variety of red wine styles, ranging from light and fruity to full-bodied and robust, and is prized for its rich tannins, bright acidity, and a range of fruit and spice flavours.
Lagrein grapes are grown primarily in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of north-eastern Italy, in the valleys of Valle Isarco and Val Venosta. This area is known for its diverse and unique terroirs, which produce distinct and complex flavours in the grapes grown there. Some of the most notable regions for Lagrein production include the Bolzano and Terlano wine regions, where the grape is grown both in vineyards and in mountainous regions.
In addition to Italy, Lagrein is also grown in small quantities in Australia and the United States.
Lagrein produces full-bodied wine with high acidity, that are highly tannic and exhibit a deep, rich colour.
The grape variety is known for its bold, spicy and black fruit flavors such as black cherry, blackberry and plum. Lagrein is often blended with other grape varieties to add complexity to the wine.
