Lacrima is a red wine grape variety that is primarily grown in the Marche region of central Italy. It is used to produce a variety of red wine styles, ranging from light and fruity to full-bodied and robust, and is prized for its unique flavour profile and delicate aromatics.

Notable regions

Lacrima grapes are mainly grown in the Marche region of Italy, specifically in the area surrounding the town of Morro d'Alba. In recent years, they have also been planted in other regions of Italy such as Umbria and Lazio.

The Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC allows for blending with other local grape varieties like Montepulciano, Sangiovese or Verdicchio, however the majority of Lacrima grapes are used to produce varietal wines.

Characteristics

The grape produces light to medium-bodied wines that are typically low in tannins and high in acidity.

Lacrima is known for producing deep-coloured, highly aromatic wines with rich fruit flavours, often with a touch of spice. Its distinctive aroma is often described as reminiscent of violets and cherries.
