Gewürztraminer is a white wine grape variety that is primarily grown in the Alsace region of north-eastern France, but is also grown in other wine regions around the world, including Germany, Austria, and the United States. It is known for producing aromatic, medium-bodied white wines with a distinctive floral and spicy character.
Gewürztraminer is most famously grown in the vineyards of the Alsace region of France where it is one of just four varieties permitted within the Alsace Grand Cru. The region is known for its full-bodied Gewürztraminer wines, such as its dry Vendages Tardives and botrytized Sélection de Grains Nobles.
The grape is also grown in other wine-producing countries such as Germany and Australia, and United States regions of California and New York. In Italy, Gewürztraminer is known as Traminer Aromatico and is used to make wines in the Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige regions.
Wines produced using Gewürztraminer tend to be dry with medium to light body and medium to high acidity.
