Cesanese is indigenous to the Lazio region of Italy where it covers much of the hilly land to the south of Rome that overlook the Sacco and Aniene river valleys. It is also particularly well-known in the province of Frosinone, where it is the most widely planted grape variety.
The grape is also grown in smaller amounts in the Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo and Molise regions, where it is used to produce medium-bodied and elegant red wines
