Château La Gaffelière 1979 Saint-Émilion 1er-Grand Cru

Classic Merlot dominant, right-bank Bordeaux-blend with Cabernet Franc from a Premier Grand Cru Classe \"B\" in the 1958 Classification of Saint-Émilion: matured for 14-16 months in 50% new oak barrels.

Château La Gaffelière was previously named Château Gaffelière-Naudes up until the 1960s. The estate has belonged to the Malet-Roquefort family for three centuries.

There is a fairly complicated classification system for the appellation which includes; Premier Grand Cru Classé A, Premier Grand Cru Classé B and Grand Cru Classé. Saint-Émilion Grand Cru may also be noted on labels but without the word \"Classé\", this means the wine is not part of this classification system. In recent years some top producers in the area have voluntarily withdrawn for the classification system.
