Muscadelle is a white wine grape variety that is famously grown in the Bordeaux region of France. It is known for its delicate floral and honey aromas, and is often blended with Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc to produce sweet dessert wines such as Sauternes and Barsac.
Muscadelle is commonly cultivated in Bordeaux, France where it is used as a minor component of the region's white wine blends. It is also a key component of sweet wines such as Sauternes and Barsac.
Cultivation of the grape in France is less common than it used to be however, and the majority of Muscadelle under vine is now found in Australia where it mostly found in the vineyards of Victoria, and again in sweet wines from Rutherglen and Glenrowan.
On the nose, Muscadelle wines have an aroma profile that features notes of honey, fruit blossom, and beeswax, with a hint of nuttiness and spice.
On the palate, Muscadelle wines are characterised by their medium-bodied structure and medium-high acidity, resulting in a balance of fruit and floral flavours with a refreshing finish. These wines are also known for their versatility, with a range of flavours that can include honey, floral, and citrus notes.
