Müller-Thurgau

Müller-Thurgau is a white wine grape variety that is widely grown in Germany and other northern European countries. It is a hybrid variety created by crossing Riesling and Madeleine Royale, and is known for producing light-bodied and fruity wines with a crisp acidity.

Notable regions

The Müller-Thurgau grape is particularly well-cultivated in Germany where it is the second most widely planted white grape variety. Having said that, the majority of the grape under vine globally is in northern Itay.

Müller-Thurgau is also grown in other wine regions such as Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and the United States.

Characteristics

Müller-Thurgau usually produces crisp and fresh white wines with a light and fruity flavour profile. On the nose, these wines have an aroma profile that features notes of fresh fruit such as green apples, pears, and peaches, as well as hints of floral and herbal notes.

On the palate, Müller-Thurgau wines are characterised by their light body and moderate acidity, leading to a refreshing and crisp finish. These wines are also known for their easy-drinking style, with a range of flavours that can include fruit and floral notes.
