Lambrusco is a red wine grape variety that is primarily grown in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. It is used to produce a variety of sparkling red wine styles, ranging from light and fruity to full-bodied and robust, and is known for its bright acidity, light effervescence, and a range of fruit and spice flavours.
Lambrusco is primarily grown in the Emilia-Romagna region, with notable production in Piedmont and Basilicata as well. In the Emilia-Romagna region, Lambrusco is often blended with other red grapes such as Ancellotta and Barbera to produce light, effervescent wines.
Almost all Lambrusco cultivation is concentrated in Italy, however small amounts are also grown in Australia, Argentina and the United States.
The Lambrusco grapes are known for producing wines with low to medium tannins, high acidity and a fruity, light-bodied flavour profile.
Classic flavours and aromas exhibited in Lambrusco wines include cherries and blackberries, violet, rhubarb and some creamy notes.
