Cortese is a white grape variety that is native to and predominantly grown in the south-eastern regions of Piedmont in the provinces of Alessandria and Asti. It is most famously associated with the DOCG wines of Cortese di Gavi.
The Cortese grape is best-known for producing the crisp, light-bodied, and mineral-driven white wine Gavi, which is made in the province of Alessandria in the Piedmont region of Italy.
Cortese is also grown in other regions in Italy, such as Lombardy and Veneto, as well as in France, where it is used to produce sparkling wines in the Alsace region.
Cortese is known for producing bone-dry wines with light body, medium to high acidity and medium alcohol content.
The high acidity gives it a fresh and zesty character with a delicate flavour profile that includes notes of green apples, pears, lemon zest, and a hint of minerality.
