Neyret-Gachet 1971 Château-Grillet

100% Viognier from the monopole-appellation of Chateau-Grillet, neighbouring Condrieu, in the Northern Rhône Valley; matured in various sizes of oak (approx. 20% new) barrels for 18 months.

Château-Grillet is a small wine-growing AOC in the northern Rhône wine region of France, the whole appellation is only a miniscule 3.8 hectares of vines where only one grape is allowed by law to be planted in the vineyards, Viognier. The appellation was officially created in 1936 and is owned by a single winery, Château-Grillet. The property was purchased by Francois Pinault, the owner of Chateau Latour in Pauillac in 2011.
