Niepoort 1987 Vintage Port

Founded in 1842, the small Port house of Niepoort is now run by 5th generation brother and sister Dirk and Verena Niepoort. Niepoort used to be well-known for their Tawny and Colheita ports, but in recent years Dirk has worked tirelessly to raise the profile of their Vintage Ports too. Their Vintage Port’s unique style can be appreciated when very young, but still will mature to become as long-lived as any other.

Vintage Port is a specific style of Ruby Port which is made only in exceptional years and from the ripest grapes. The fermented wine is fortified before being aged for 2 years in massive oak vats which preserve the ripe fruit character. Upon bottling, the wines continue to age and can reward patient maturation for many decades.

1987 vintage, bottled in 1989.
