product Details

Cockburn's 1955 Vintage Port

1955 Vintage; Bottled with the label and wax seal of Bury St. Edmunds wine merchant, Peathing & Cawdron.

Cockburn’s is one of the classic Port Houses, established by Scotsman Robert Cockburn in 1815, who returned to Portugal after first visiting the country as a soldier. It later became a major brand of port in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Vintage Port is a specific style of Ruby Port which is made only in exceptional years and from the ripest grapes.  The fermented wine is fortified before being aged for 2 years in massive oak vats which preserve the ripe fruit character.  Upon bottling, the wines continue to age and can reward patient maturation for many decades.

Important Notice

We would recommend viewing/close inspection prior to placing any bids. If this is not an option and you have questions beyond the offered description and images, please contact us for a more in-depth condition report. Otherwise lots will be sold as seen in the images.

Please note: Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit.
