Dona Antonia A.Ferreira Bastardo 1834 Garrafeira Port

This bottle of Port is remarkable for a number of reasons.  Not simply for the fact that it is incredibly old, being the produce of the 1834 vintage; or that as a Garrafeira, it spent much of its life maturing in oak barrels; or even that in spite of the overwhelming majority of Ports being blends of many different grape varieties, that this bottle states Bastardo as its predominant variety; but 1834 was also the year in which Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira married, and through which eventually the estates of her parents and parents-in-law were consolidated into the producer known today simply as Ferreira.
